Looking back in hindsight and all that

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we all do it, as does garyshawisthelaw here...

One of the big selections for the Euros was Rooney, I honestly do think now looking back in hindsight feel that was wrong, I really thought he'd come in and shine and give us that lift to take us through to the semis, sadly he didn't look match fit and his spark just wasn't there..

Defoe who I honestly think is probably one of if not the best natural finishers we've got must be feeling pretty bloody low at this moment in time being totally left out like that..

Now I'm not gonna go all ant Roy here as I reckon considering the small amount of time he had before this tournament we did ok, I expect us to have a bit of an clear out so to speak of some of the older players and some that are just not good enough, I think he is definitely the right man (I hope so) for this so he'll get my support.

However on the topic of selection the one that really baffles me is Oxlade, when he was selected it was a brave choice and one that I was really excited about.. He started the French game, probably the toughest group game and a game where he was kind of expected to play in a style I don't think he's really accustomed too, he did ok and I really thought he'd come on from that in the other games, but he didn't really get a look in and I can't get my head round why.

Especially when Young who was expected to be one of our most creative players was pretty poor to be fair.

Anyway onwards and upwards and hopefully we'll have a real successful WC campaign playing a much younger team and better attacking football.

I still think we went into the tournament looking more for damage limitation as opposed to actually trying to win it. I suppose to a point we succeeded, but I agree that Rooney was well below par and I was pushing for Ox over others, because I felt he offered more options. Again I think we played too safe and looked not to lose over trying to win. I hope now that Hodgson has time and games to establish himself, we will now see a greater ambition and planning
