The Sunderland striker has had a storming season and deserves his place in the 30 man squad. Whether he gets the chance to shoe-horn his way into the last 23 is another matter, perhaps destined to unfold in the land of the rising sun.

Darren experienced World Cup heartache four years ago, snubbed ahead of the 2006 finals in Germany, but thanks to his 24 Premiership goals for Sunderland he cannot be ignored.

Since Redknapp sapped his confidence with a particularly cutting comment claiming "my missus would have scored", Darren has picked himself up and delivered reassuringly regularly since his £16 millions move The Black Cats.

With just 5 caps to his name, Bent may have over-taken Zamora in the pecking order but he remains the rank outsider for the chance to plunder in the land of the rand.
