England romp home

Any apprehension anyone might of felt about travelling to Moldova to start our World cup qualifying campaign, were soon dispelled, England absolutely walked it, a soft penalty in the opening minutes may of eased some nerves, from then on in, beside a languid start to the second half, it was all England.

The only real surprise Roy Hodgson threw into the mix was a first start for Cleverley, the Ox also started on the left with Baines behind him, and in midfield were the 'unplayables' Lampard and Gerrard, for a pair that can't supposedly get on together on the pitch, this was the 51st time they took to the field together.

England were off to a flier, Cleverley smashed in an early shot that was blocked in the area, unfairly by a hand accordingly to the ref, up stepped Lampard who happily smashed home.

Soon after it was 2, this time Oxlaide-Chambelain who was having a fine start crossed into the box and Lampard was again on hand to guide the ball home with his head.

The only thing better than this 2 goal start was a 3 goal one, this time Defoe smashed home from wide, the Moldovan 'keeper making a mess of his dive to gift the effort.

Half time came and England were truly coasting, so much so that they started the second period with a touch of complacency, Moldova suddenly started finding a bit of space and the passing was not so crisp.

All that changed however on 74 minutes, England produced a goal of some class, Walcott burst clear and interlinked with Welbeck and Cleverley, they then squared it up for Milner who smashed home for his first international goal.

With the clock ticking down England had another, Baines who had enjoyed an industrious evening lined up a free kick, he hit toward the near post but the ball took a massive deflection to go completely the other way, the net rippled and it was high 5's all round, job done.

Star Player

In an attacking evening Oxlaide-Chamberlain really caught the eye.

to be honest, I was reasonably impressed, though I fully accept that Moldova were truly terrible. this was a sied that was without several key players and is still very much caught between the today and tomorrow in its development.
