England vs. Wales

Wembley

06-09-11

7.45pm

England v Wales

England will be looking to take a huge, if not confirming step, towards Euro 2012 qualification against Wales on Tuesday - victory and we are all but off to Ukraine and Poland.

Vital Quotes:

I was expecting 3pts against Switzerland last time we were at Wembley, and coming back from 2-0 down we salvaged a point but surely we should beat the Welsh at home, right?

England Team News:

Leighton Baines - hamstring, Darren Bent - groin - and Micah Richards - hamstring were all ruled out of the game through injury earlier in the week and have returned to their clubs for treatment. No replacements were called up with Fabio Capello content with his lot.

With some, notably Scott Parker and 'maybe' Gareth Barry, a booking away from suspension it is being 'said' that Frank Lampard could come back into the side for one of these to ensure they are available to face Montenegro next month?

Another that is being 'touted' for a starting place is James Milner, in place of Theo Walcott to better combat the threat from Gareth Bale.

Player to watch: Wayne Rooney

A couple of goals for the United man on Friday, and an all-round performance to match is what you want from Rooney - more of the same and Wales will be overcome I would say.

Wales Team News:

James Collins - suspension - and English born but Welsh eligible, and now set to confirm his allegiance to Wales, Jack Collison - illness - are available.

Craig Bellamy and David Vaughan - both suspension - miss out though.

Sam Ricketts - Achilles - and Neal Eardley - broken fingers - were both missing from the squad anyway.

Player to watch: Gareth Bale

The Spurs man was forced to miss the game in Wales through injury at a time when many were touting him as 'the best footballer in Europe'...

Bale has already been identified by Fabio Capello as 'the danger man' for obvious reasons.

Match Facts & Stats

England last played Wales in March, and we won that 2-0 but it should have been a lot more after a dominant 1st half showing at The Millennium Stadium.

England have won 65 of the 98 meetings with Wales recording 12 wins. The other 21 have been drawn.

England, at 4th, are currently much higher than Wales, in 117th, in the FIFA world rankings.

Ref Watch:

Robert Schorgenhofer (Austria).

Match Prediction:

Wales did us a favour the other night and beat Montenegro, they will want another scalp but England will not slip up, will they...

Next Fixtures:

Montenegro, away, are next up in October as qualification concludes.

on paper, this should be a walk in the park, but this is a massive game for wales, who would love to even snatch a point at Wembley.
