England vs. Ghana

England v Ghana

The competitive business saw England come through with an impressive 3pts after the win over Wales - next up comes the meeting against one of the impressive sides from the world cup last summer Ghana.

Vital Quotes:

I suspect that it will be a case of 'after the lord mayor's show' tonight although with plenty of players coming in looking to make an impression it is up to do this.

But will they?

England Team News:

John Terry, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney all left the squad after the Wales game - injury has forced Kyle Walker and Aaron Lennon out.

There is a chance that Capello could change the whole of the team that started against Wales, with 5 of those that did already out of the squad then at least 50% of it will and Gareth Barry will be one of them and will captain the side

Danny Welbeck was called into the squad today so he 'might' be in line for a senior debut at some point.

Player to watch: Andy Carroll

The big man made an impressive enough debut back along, fighting back from injury the Liverpool man will continue the fitness building exercise against the African nation and if he gets the right service he 'might' open his Three Lions account.

Ghana Team News:

Ghana played Congo in an African nations qualifier on Sunday so this comes hot on the heels of this with round trips journeys of around 4,000 miles spoken about come close of play tonight.

The good news for them is that they have had no injury setbacks following that win so most are expecting the same side to be named.

Player to watch: Kevin Prince-Boateng

As I know the guy quite well from his Pompey days it has been interesting to see how he has grown over the past year or so - after a fantastic world cup he got his bizarre move to Milan via Genoa and 'seems' to have continued the development in Italy.

Match Facts & Stats

England have never played Ghana, so tonight will be a night of first - or at least potential firsts...

England, at 6th, are currently higher than Ghana, in 16th, in the FIFA world rankings.

Ref Watch:

Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey)

Match Prediction:

As with any friendly the performances of individuals, and as a team, are the most important things, although we want to get a result too. Like I said earlier there is a decent chance that this will be a damp squib after the impressive Euro 2012 game at the weekend, but we will see...

Next Fixtures:

Switzerland, at Wembley, are next up in June when the Euro 2012 qualifiers continue.
