Phil Foden: The Next Iniesta?

Phil Foden: The Next Iniesta?

Mark my words: Manchester City and England U17 midfielder Phil Foden will be the next Iniesta.

Pep Guardiola said of Foden: 'It`s dangerous to say good things about young players because they are still young, and they have to grow and they have to learn many, many things … But we have a lot of confidence to help him, because we believe he is a guy who has potential, even if he`s not strong, he`s not tall … I think he has absolutely good potential to be helped, and that is what we do.'

Quite a compliment from the so-called world's best manager isn't it?

This season has seen the Stockport born maestro slowly being introduced into the Manchester City's starting XI and WOW, the teenage sensation is taking his opportunity by the scruff of the neck and in doing so proving to Pep and the rest of the world just how good he is.

If you haven't seen him in action then my advice to you is to pop along to YouTube and type in his name.

Already an England 2017 World Cup winner at the U17 level Phil has a mean dribble and an awesome left foot. His passing ability for someone so young is streets ahead of his peers and his tactical brain and overall awareness will blow you away.

Although Foden has been around for years (City signed him when he was just 7) 2017 was when he began to come to the media's attention. Especially in December when he won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Gareth Southgate will, over the next couple of days name his England squad for the forthcoming international friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy. But, will he have the gumption to bring Phil into the senior fold?

I truly hope so!

As a City fan then I have to say Phil is an amazing player and should be included within the next senior England squad. Not that he needs to play but the experience will do him a lot of good.
