FA Bid To Host 2021 UEFA European Women's Championship

FA Bid To Host 2021 UEFA European Women's Championship

Following a relatively successful summer the FA announced yesterday (Thursday 10 August 2017) about their intent to bid to host the 2021 UEFA European Women's Championship.

The Lionesses reached the semi-finals of the 2017 UEFA Women's Euros only to be knocked out by the eventual winners and host nation, the Netherlands. By all accounts the game captivated the UK viewers with a peak Channel 4 audience of 4m. A record figure for a woman's match in Great Britain.

Martin Glenn, FA chief executive officer told the official FA website...

'The Lionesses` performances at the Euros this summer gave the country great pride.

'It also showed the significant impact that hosting a major European tournament can have on growing and developing women`s football.'

Baroness Sue Campbell, FA head of women's football said...

'I've seen first-hand the positive impact these tournaments can have in raising the profile and popularity of the women's game at all levels.

'This is another wonderful opportunity to maintain the momentum around women's football and the feelgood factor generated by the Lionesses in the Netherlands. I'm right behind the bid.'

Further FA announcements will be made in due course following a consultation with the British government and associated partners.
