Palace Winger Has Choice Confirmed
Well, any hope Gareth Southgate had of convincing Wilfried Zaha he should stick with England ended last week when the Crystal Palace winger had his place in the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations confirmed.
Southgate made it clear he hoped to persuade the former Manchester United winger he would have his chance under him with England but his mind has been made up. He's now switched to the country of his birth beyond a doubt.
Despite winning two caps for England - in friendlies against Sweden and Scotland - having grown up in London after coming to Britain as a child the lure of his homeland has proven too strong.
Zaha ended 2016 in great form with that seemingly suggesting the 24 year old could prove to be a loss for England - one that got away in fact - with this Three Lions loss most definitely the Ivory Coast's gain.
This has already been proven as he managed an assist minutes into his debut for the Ivory Coast in a 2-1 win - ironically enough against Sweden - on Sunday.
His involvement in this competition could prove to the benefit of Crystal Palace though as his absence until mid-late February could mean interest from others isn't followed up in the transfer window this month?
