Arsenal's Welbeck Back In Training

Arsenal's Welbeck Back In Training

As long as Danny Welbeck doesn't suffer any setbacks - heaven forbid another serious injury - England manager Gareth Southgate should have the Arsenal striker as an option in the New Year.

Welbeck has this week returned to full training with Arsenal having spent the last seven months on the sidelines due to a knee injury. The setback - against Manchester City in May - of course meant he was ruled out of Euro 2016.

I doubt he'll be involved in Arsenal's Boxing Day meeting with West Brom and I'd imagine Welbeck isn't going to play over the festive period at all but he should be back in contention for the Gunners heading into the New Year - England involvement would follow.

Arsene Wenger has said he'll be cautious in his approach with the 26 year old but basically took the clich├ęd approach of likening the former Manchester United striker to a new signing for Arsenal.

His pre-match conference saw Wenger quoted by arsenal.com as saying.

'Welbeck will need some time. Friday is his first team training session. Of course it's fantastic, because for him it's like starting a new career, because he has been out for such a long time. But I'm a bit cautious with the little setbacks you have when you have been out for a long time. You have to be patient.'

Due to another serious knee injury - prior to this one - the England striker has managed just 15 games in the past 20 months. However, all being well these injury problems are now behind him and Southgate can see Welbeck back to his best for club and country soon enough.
