Shaw Not Expected To Be Perfect

Shaw Not Expected To Be Perfect

England international Luke Shaw has come in for some public criticism from Jose Mourinho following some of his performances at club level for Manchester United this season.

However, his United manager recently said he doesn't expect the former Southampton man 'to be perfect' at this stage of his career as a 22-year-old couldn't be considered the finished product.

Shaw's not a youngster any more but does still have got plenty of years ahead of him - these are years Mourinho expects to see improvements made by the left back with him challenged to do this at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese understands - and is happy to concede - Shaw will make the odd error as this is part of the development process for any player. However, he's keen he actually does learn from them.

Mourinho was quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying:

'He needs to improve. That is normal. He is a kid; I am not expecting a young player to be perfect. A young player makes mistakes and has things to learn and develop. He needs to do that.'

All being well Shaw will soon be back in the United first team on a regular basis and showing his best form again - a level of performance the like of which was shown before his horrific double leg break last year.
