Neuer Backs Up The Hype

Neuer Backs Up The Hype

Manuel Neuer showed against England a good few years back in the U21 Euros final, I think it was 2009 or maybe even 2007, that he was going to be a cracking goalie.

At the 2010 world cup, as good as he was at times, he tended to look a bit flustered when we played the German's in South Africa - even so they battered us 4-1 in the end after 'the goal that never was' from Frank Lampard...

Over the years the Bayern Munich man has gained quite a reputation, for many he was the best goalie in the world going into the world cup in Brazil.

Well, having played his part in helping Germany to winning the thing he has quite literally been crowned the best in the world as he won the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper at the world cup.

I always knew he was a good goalie but had not quite bought into the hype but watching what he did - and sometimes what he did not do that others might have, when they would have been better off not doing so - it is hard to look past how good he is, and the hype is well deserved for me.

At 28, still relatively young in terms of a goalie, it could be argued that he is not even in his prime yet!

Not only does Neuer posses incredible reflexes, the command, in fact dominance of his area is second to none. In actual fact he virtually dominates much of his half!

As well as being the goalie he also acts as something of a goalkeeper-cum-sweeper, countless times he literally swept up to snuff our attacks from opposition when a ball was played over the top.

Yep, quite easily the best on display in Brazil - there were some good goalies mind, Costa Rica's and Chile's both had very good tournaments as did some others - and a worthy winner of the Golden Glove that you cannot really argue against can you?

Certainly someone for Joe Hart - who quite possibly, if not probably, played against Neuer in that U21 final? - and the other goalies that England have to look up to and aspire to be...
