Nordic - Third Place Success For U16s

Nordic - Third Place Success For U16s

England Women's U16s have finished as third place runners up in this summers Nordic Tournament following a penalty shootout victory over Norway.

Having won our opening two group games, our loss on Monday to host nation Sweden meant we would not make the final and instead would battle it out for the third/fourth place play off.

Ashleigh Plumptre, winning goalscorer in the opening game against Holland, repeated the feat and put England into the lead in the game against Norway in Stromstad, but they came back to equalise before half time.

Alessia Russo restored our advantage following the break, but Norway battled back to grab the leveller two minutes from the end of normal time to force the game to a penalty shootout.

Mollie Rouse, Jessica Jones, Georgia Stanway and Plumptre again, all converted from 12 yards, and with goalkeeper Sandy MacIver thwarting Norway once from the spot, England were handed the victory and third place in the competition.

The Tournament was preparation for the upcoming UEFA Euro U17 qualifying campaign, and England will now prepare to take on Moldova, Bulgaria and Russia in October, with the top two nations from the group progressing to the final stage of qualifying next April.

Hopefully I'll be able to update shortly with full team details.
