They think it's all over...

They think it's all over...

The famous line to follow would be 'it is now'... although technically it is not quite over for England yet, pretty much it is though with us all but out of the world cup!

First and foremost Italy must beat Costa Rica on tonight, if they do this it gives us an outside chance of getting through if we then beat them in our final game and Italy then beat Uruguay.

A few too many 'if' for my liking though...

Lets work on the assumption that Italy beat Costa Rica, unless they are heavily beaten they will keep the 2nd qualifying place going into the final round of games.

If we do beat Costa Rica you would think that, as news will quickly filter through to Italy and Uruguay, with Italy already knowing that they are basically through - should they win tonight - they would settle for this to confirm group winner status and Uruguay would also know a point would do them so take that.

Give or take, it is probable that an Italy-Uruguay draw could see both through...

It is highly, highly, unlikely that we will be able to do what is required and even a final group game win will probably not be enough, will it?

Please let us end positively though.

Ok, perhaps a lot was not expected from us at this work cup but losing all 3 group games was not something that I had even dreamt would happen - bizarrely losing a couple and winning just the solitary one could still see us through in 2nd place mind!

For now though I would just settle for a positive finish to the group to take into the future...
