Ox Back For Uruguay - No Gerrard Issue

At today's England press conference manager Roy Hodgson said he was hopeful that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be back in contention for our second group game and he also dismissed reports that Steven Gerrard was carrying an injury.

With Ox picking up a knee injury in the Ecuador friendly, it was revealed that he returned to light training yesterday as England trained for the first time since arriving in Brazil, and Hodgson says the medical team are reasonably confident he'll be back to full speed in time for the Uruguay match, although obviously no guarantees can be given.

'He's done very well and will work on his training programme during the course of the week. The medics hope he'll be ready for the second game.'

As for Gerrard given news broke yesterday that he ended the training session early with a supposed groin issue that didn't give rise to noticeable discomfort or leave him limping, Hodgson added.

'We did a training session where the players who didn't play on Saturday trained, and some of the others did a warm down session. Steven did some extra work at the end of that training session. There's nothing wrong with him and I don't understand that story at all.'
