Henderson An England Starter?

Henderson An England Starter?

Jordan Henderson had told sky sports news that he hopes the understanding that he has with Steven Gerrard at club level can lead to him being a starter for England at the world cup.

Henderson has really flourished in the past 12-months or so and he attributes a lot of this to Gerrard's input.

This is something he thinks could be as successful for England as it has been for Liverpool: 'since I've been at Liverpool Stevie helped me a lot personally - on the field you pick up little things, training with him every week has really been a help to me.

'We've got to keep that relationship going as long as possible and hopefully bring it to England.

'Me and Stevie have played through the season together and it's worked really well at times. But when we come with England its different, I think it's up to the manager to decide whatever team he wants to put out.'

Who would have thought two-years ago when Henderson was drafted into the England squad for Euro 2012 from the standby list that he would have developed into the player that he has become?

In fairness he ended up playing quite a role in that tournament too.

Conversations that the likes of my cousin, and our friends, have had in the pub recently ahead of club games that turned to England had us all in agreement that we felt Henderson and Gerrard would be a pairing that we should look to keep at international level as it had worked so well at club level.

In fact we went as far as saying that we felt they should be in the starting XI alongside club teammates Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, not forgetting Glen Johnson at right back!

There is some good competition for places in this squad, which leaves me still of the opinion that I reckon we can end up doing much better than many people might anticipate you know and I think we can make the ¼ finals at least...

No doubt these thoughts will come back to haunt me!
