U20s - Southgate Calls Up Keane

U20s - Southgate Calls Up Keane

Manchester United's 21 year old striker Will Keane has now been drafted into the England U20 squad for the Toulon Tournament.

The announcement comes ahead of tomorrow's game against Brazil.

All squads can carry 20 players, but following the injury to Harry Kane, England travelled to France with a contingent of only 19 players and speaking to the FA.com Southgate said it was a deliberate decision to leave the final place until now because he wanted to see what players could be available given the Play Off matches in the Football League.

Keane has been on loan with Queens Park Rangers, but he has apparently been an unused squad member for their promotion campaign back to the Premier League and with his loan coming to an end on Saturday, Southgate decided it should be he who makes up our 20 man squad.

'Originally, anyone that was in the play offs we left with their club, but once Harry was injured we looked at who might be at a club in the play offs but not necessarily involved.'

Gates goes on to say that he knew we'd be fine for the first match in the competition, but he knew whoever he choose had to be with us for this week, so they could adjust and get training and get themselves up to speed tactically.

'I'm really pleased to have Will here. He's been with us and trained before, so we know his character and we have a really good group in terms of characters so he fits right in.'
