Hodgson In Positive Mood

Roy Hodgson is not shouting from the rooftops that England 'will win the world cup' but as the training camp in Portugal gets underway he is in confident, and positive, mood.

He has told sky sports that England are not 'making up the numbers' and he will not be 'ruling out' going all the way: 'of course we'll go there thinking of winning it, believing it and working hard to do that.

'Can we play well enough? We have hope, dream and ambition. I'm not ruling out winning it. It would be foolish to go there thinking we can't win it or we're only there to make up the numbers.'

What will be the key to this, other than 'winning games' of course?

Preparation.

Not only ahead of games in Brazil but at the first training camp in Portugal and then of course ahead of the games.

He knows the players 'are human' so is not going to keep them 'locked up in their rooms' or make them endure 'hours and hours of meetings' but he will insist that they prepare right and listen to the instructions given.

This time in Portugal, as he put it 'a glorified training rest period', is the perfect start.

So long as we come away from the tournament with people saying 'well done' he says that he will be happy, but stresses the importance of 'preparing properly' for this to be possible, both physically and mentally...

I am not getting 'carried away' but the closer the world cup comes the more excited I am becoming and the more I am starting to think we will do alright you know!
