Lampard Gets Vice Captain's Nod

Lampard Gets Vice Captain's Nod

Roy Hodgson has confirmed that midfielder Frank Lampard will continue in his role as vice captain of the England side for the coming World Cup.

The 35 year old Chelsea player has 10-3 caps to his name and will hold the vice skipper role, with striker Wayne Rooney the third in the pecking order.

'Frank's been the vice captain all along in Steven's absences, which I think have been twice. He's stepped up quite brilliantly.'

Hodgson goes on to say that he's always viewed Lampard as an integral part of the 23 man squad because of the experience he carries and his attitude both on and off the pitch, outside of his obvious footballing ability, and that experience and his leadership characteristics make him the perfect choice for the position.

After Hodgson who will be the England manager?

The England exit in such a meek manor to Iceland saw Hodgson decide to jump before he was pushed so we now need a new manager. Odds have England U21 manager Southgate as favourite.

Honourable Hodgson - England manager steps down

Lets face it did Roy Hodgson have an option? It was an honourable move by Hodgson though, a move that a number of his predecessors could (and should) have made but didn't.

Three Lions - Slovakia @ Stade de Nice

'Embarrassing.' Quite simply the only word to use...it wasn't embarrassing losing to Iceland as such, what was embarrassing was the England performance in the 2-1 last 16 exit.
