Attack The Best Form Of Defence?
Perhaps Tony Adams has stumbled across the best gameplan that England could have this summer at the world cup.
He has spoken to sky sports news this week to basically say that we do not have 'the quality in defence to impress at the world cup'...
In fairness to the former Arsenal man perhaps he does have a point as this is an area that does look, all in all, a little weak and suspect - then again has this not been the case for a while?
John Terry is someone that he feels should have been selected and he cannot 'understand' why he has not been and the omission of his former Arsenal teammate Ashley Cole 'is a mistake'.
To be honest I think we have done the Cole issue to death, I appreciate what Adams is saying but facts of the matter are it is time we move on, quite literally with this point and from Cole as far as England is concerned.
Ok, perhaps Terry has been in fine form for Chelsea but that ship has sailed too.
Terry's England career is over and we look forward and not back - his not being in the squad might mean we are 'weaker' defensively but we are moving on from him regardless, perhaps it is time Adams did too...
Adams though might have found a secret weapon for England this summer?
In terms of our attacking players, and ability, he does not think that we will have any problems going forward, it just that we have not 'got the quality' defensively.
Attack, for me, would be our best form of defence.
Whether or not Roy Hodgson would take such an approach I am not so sure but I would hope that given our attacking talent, the exciting, energetic and hungry young attacking players we have that we let them off the leash and let them do what they do best.
Sitting back will not work, showing attacking intent would...
