Carney - The Meadow Is Always Greener
Karen Carney has said that she's hoping Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow continues to be a happy hunting ground for the England women's team as they continue preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.
The winger has tasted success with the side on each of the three previous occasions they have played at the ground, and visiting Shrewsbury's home to promote the match she is quoted Click Here on the clubs' official website as saying.
'I've been to Shrewsbury a number of times now as a spectator, and a player. It's a lovely ground and the people are so friendly. It's a nice pitch and we seem to have played well here in the past so hopefully it will be four wins out of four for us.'
Of course the last time Carney was at Shrewsbury she took part in a coaching course which was organised by their Community Sports Trust which she describes as being fantastic, so the whole time at the ground is something she enjoys.
She would, the 94 times capped player scored the winner the first time they played there back in 2007 in the game against Spain, and since that time she has helped the side to victories over Norway and Switzerland, so Ukraine really would be the icing on the cake if they can achieve it.
'It's important with it being a qualifier and we want to get to the World Cup definitely. We're in a healthy position at the moment but we've still got five games to and we need to get another win.'
Of course it would be remiss of Carney to not say that the aim for the team is to play well, play good, attractive football and entertain the crowd because ultimately it's still about growing the profile of the women's game and the best way to do that is by them being successful and giving the fans something to cheer about and talk about when they leave.
If recent results can be replicated, they'll certainly do that.
