Townsend Misses The World Cup

The world cup was meant to be a platform for Andros Townsend to shine.

He only burst onto the international scene last October but his impact was instant as he scored against Montenegro and also helped us see off Poland to secure our place at the world cup in Brazil.

Townsend, even though he had found it hard to get a regular place in the Spurs 1st team for a while, was a virtual shoe-in for a place in the squad.

Injury has ruled him out though.

Spurs officially confirmed on Wednesday that his ankle injury requires surgery and that will keep him out for 10-weeks, ruling him out of the world cup: 'following further examination and consultation, Andros Townsend is to undergo surgery on his left ankle after damaging ligaments during our fixture against Stoke City last Saturday.

'The injury is likely to sideline the young winger for up to 10 weeks.'

This was something that was expected following his injury against Stoke at the weekend and it is a disappointment for Roy Hodgson and England but there is not much that can be done.

As one door closes another opens I guess...
