Slim To None... No Longer None Anyway
Will Adam Johnson be able to force his way back into the England squad in time to claim a place in the world cup squad this summer?
The Sunderland winger is not very hopeful...
In fact he has said last week that he felt Roy Hodgson had already made up his mind, roughly, on what his squad will be and does not think he close enough to forcing his way back in.
Speaking to the Star towards the end of last week, in the wake of Theo Walcott's injury and a return to the starting XI for his club side to have a big impact in two cup wins, he thinks that might give him some fresh impetus but is not retaining much hope.
'I'm probably too far away now. His mind is made up.
'He has used 30-odd players and I haven't been one of them, but I won't give up. Theo Walcott is quite a good friend of mine so it wasn't nice to see that happen to him but you have to take your chance.
'You never know, he might come and watch a few of our games. Playing in big games against big teams helps and hopefully he had someone watching on Tuesday.'
Johnson went on to say that 'stranger things have happened', and he would be right, but the reality is that his chances are pretty much slim to none as others have forced their way ahead of him.
Even the injury to Walcott would not be enough to bump him up the order to even make the provisional 30-man squad for me, I could be wrong though?
Never say never mind, but perhaps so much time spent warming the Man City bench has ultimately cost him his England career...
Johnson would not have done his chances any harm, with another fine performance, and some goals in the Sunderland win over Fulham last week - he not only created one goal he scored the others when he bagged a hat-trick!
