England call for Steven Taylor

Yet another defensive problem has come for England with injury ruling Gary Cahill out of the game with San Marino, with all due respect to them we should cope without him!

The Chelsea man could be fit to face Montenegro next week though?

Having been linked with a possible recall in the first place Roy Hodgson has called upon Steven Taylor to further boost the defensive options.

Chances are the Newcastle man will not be involved against Montenegro but I would definitely give him the nod to face San Marino?

With that in mind, when you think about it (as Oxfordspur pointed out) it makes it all the more farcical that Rio Ferdinand did not consider himself able to take part in either one of the two games we will play - with that in mind his international career should definitely be over now!

Good luck to Taylor, I think that his call-up is warranted and it also appears that the Vital England fraternity agree as he was the subject of the most recent poll - results of which are below...

What the poll asked

Is Steven Taylor worth an England recall?

How you voted

Yep, playing well enough and good enough 51%
Nope, injury prone and not good enough 33%
Perhaps, lets see how he goes 16%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded?

You know what to do, thoughts below please guys and also, make sure you vote on the latest poll to your right...

it is a real worry that we really are so short of options at the back. I would actually like to see Caulker and smalling start against San Marino, to see how they get on, but would probably opt for Cahill if fit and lescott on tuesday where experience will be essential

Yep good luck to Taylor tonight if he plays which I think he should as he's a very good player and a regular for his club unlike some of the others of recent times.. Agree about Ferdinand, personally I thought it was a joke calling him up and then he can't join the squad because of the training regime intented..
