Britton not giving up England hope

Previously Leon Britton has been linked with an England call-up, although this was under former manager Fabio Capello.

The Swansea man admits, as he told The Daily Star recently, that he has not heard anything from Roy Hodgson since his arrival though last year: 'last season Fabio Capello came down to see a game. Stuart Pearce watched a training session and said he was keeping an eye on me and a couple of other players.

'But I haven't heard anything since.'

Britton, by all accounts, continues to play a key role for Swansea and was seen at close quarters by Hodgson in the league cup final last weekend, which might help him?

At 30 it could be questioned that his chance has gone, although The Three Lions manager has shown that age is not really a barrier having called-up Raheem Sterling at just 17 and Leon Osman at 31!

With that in mind he still hopes that his chance can come: 'you never give up hope of playing for your country.

'All I have got to do is concentrate on playing well for Swansea and if something was to ever come up it would be a dream come true.

'It is out of your hands really. Leon Osman has been playing in the Premier League since he came through the ranks, which is a lot longer than myself.

'I don't know him but the England manager has shown he will pick someone whether he is 17, like Raheem Sterling of Liverpool, or 31 like Leon.'

Will Britton get his chance?

I guess Hodgson has shown you cannot write anything off although with us so well stocked in midfield, especially as far as the first choice options go, I am not sure Britton will get his chance...

Do we have anyone that currently compares with him in the Squad? No! Is he good enough for international football? Yes!
oxfordspur
so you really rate him highly enough then Ox? got to be worth a look in a friendly then?
Rug
as I have said on many occasions, why not invite a select few to england camps and see how they get on. doesnt have to be a squad selection, but if we got the chance to have a first hand look at the likes of Brittain, Lambert and a few more, surely that is a boost to them and also a perfect chance to see what they are made of as players and also in terms of attitude and hunger to play for their country
