'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fair play Becks

In a day and age when its easy to be critical of the modern day footballer - and a large number seem to bring this criticism upon themselves with it deserved even - but sometimes you have to hold you hands up and offer credit where its due.

Many of the modern day mercenaries do little to inspire me, of others, and I have little time for the majority of them but there are some exceptions...

David Beckham's return to football came today when PSG confirmed his arrival until the end of the season.

The former England captains arrival comes with him playing for the French outfit free of charge!

Of course Becks is not short of a bob or two, and will no doubt continue to earn decent money from sponsorship deals and the like, but fair play to him for agreeing to play for the club without a weekly wage, which he will instead donate to a local French children's charity.

Like I say he is not short of money, and probably never will be as 'Brand Beckham' is a cash cow that will keep on generating, but I cannot think of many, if any other footballer that would have opted for such a great gesture!

Nice one Becks; you have done yourself and your country proud, as you did on the vast majority of the 115 occasions you pulled on The Three Lions shirt...

only a fool would not applaud Becks for this gesture but al I alone in privately wishing he has made the gesture to British children as opposed to a French charity? Of course we also need to remember that this wage is a fraction of the money he makes from endorsements and playing at a high level will maintain that figure, though this move is clearly about football over funds, as you feel any income made with PSG could have been easily beaten in Asia

agree with you on all counts really Ox - that was my thought afterwards tbh, if ONLY his wages could have gone to a british based charity eh...

perhaps the compromise would be half and half, therefore his country of birth gain massively, whilst he keeps the french happy
