'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Where has it all gone wrong for Bentley?

A player that was meant to have a 'golden future' ahead of him back along was David Bentley.

Billed as 'the next David Beckham' or 'the right footed Beckham' it has not happened for him on the international stage, and has not been happening for him at club level for an age it seems!

Unable to really force the breakthrough at Arsenal, impressive loan spells away from The Gunners eventually saw him move on in order to get the regular 1st team football he craved and how he impressed at Blackburn.

Eventually, as was inevitable, the lure of a 'bigger club' saw him make a big money move to Tottenham - this started off well enough and I remember a belter of a goal he scored against his former club Arsenal in a London derby to announce himself to his new clubs fans. You can only dine off past glories for so long though eh!

In recent times he has not had a sniff at Spurs. Last I heard he was on loan in Russia, and had even been linked with a loan move to league one MK Dons?

There has been talk of an unprofessional nature to his game, and perhaps actions away from the field have worked against him but how, and why, has it gone so horrible wrong for the attacking midfielder?

Where has this highly talented, 'England superstar in the making', gone - and is there even a glimmer of hope that he could one day return...

Well, a move to QPR seems like it will go through today so perhaps that glimmer of hope could start now?

though injuries have played a big part in his decline, he has also been the instigator of his own downfall. even he has admitted that he didnt work hard enough at Spurs and lost focus. whether he has now woken up and realised his errors now is debatable. I certainly feel he is still a good player, but need a run of games and a move away from Spurs.

what a wasted talent - not too late to undo the bad but this is running out...

how old is he now? remember being disappointed when villa didnt buy him. Think after his £16m to spurs he thought he had made it and he was a superstar, so he stopped trying, happy to pick up his wage slip at the end of each month. didnt he refuse to play for the england U21's once because he thought he was too good? think that might have been were people realised it could end up badly

I think it was the fact he become a big time Charlie and it kinda went to his head.. Shame as he really was a good player.
