Wembley naming rights? FA says NO!

A 'lead partner' is wanted by the FA, which has seen stories emanate that 'naming rights' to Wembley could be sold?

This has quickly been dismissed by a spokesman, who said: 'there are no naming rights available for Wembley Stadium and there is nothing to report about any rights deals being signed with any company at present.'

Phone outfit EE have been 'reported' as being close to signing a deal to become this partner. Should this happen it was said Wembley would be renamed 'Wembley Stadium in association with EE!'

Wembley cost WAY more than it should have, as a result the FA are always looking at ways of increasing revenue so such a scenario might not have been beyond the realms of possibility, not that it would have been liked.

This has been denied, so lets just see if this is the case...

I still believe it is only a matter of time before it happens and as we have sold the soul of everything else that is precious in the game, why not Wembley is it pays well enough. I suppose if we look at the FA CUP, how many of us prefix its name with an american lager?

true, it can be called the joe bloggs wembley stadium but the reality is we will call it 'wembley' no matter what. chances are, as you say Ox, this will happen but it will not make much difference to us and how we view it really.

lets for argument sake say we get £10m a year for naming rights. what good would that do for grass roots football in this country. more and better coaching courses to develop coaches and also massively improve playing and training facilities, such as pitches, 3/4G playing areas, floodlights etc. we are probably 20+ years behind the established nations in these areas, and at the rate we are going we will never catch tem up as they ate developing as quickly if not quicker than we are. if this means we have to name Wembley the Coca Cola or MacDonalds stadium, then so be it as long as we spend it wisely

my worry would be how much ACTUALLY would go towards grass roots tho...

probably end up paying off the debt first. but if we are serious about developing our game we have to look at the facilities and quality of youth coaching. As a youth coach myself, I back any one who takes the time and energy to coach kids, however the level 1 course is a bit of a joke and only offers a few basic ideas and also how to tuck your shirt in. I would remove the current course and look at a mini version of the Youth modules/age appropriate, but in a simpler form and spread over easier to take time-tables. I have always noted with interest that in the stronger coaching countries, they look to have the better qualified coaches looking after the kids, with the assumption that it is the best and right time to teach the skills to take the kids onto older ages
