'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Expecting too much too soon

Both England, and of course Arsenal, have been boosted by the return to action of Jack Wilshere.

After 16-months out with injury after injury the Arsenal man is on his way back, and returned to the bench at club level for the first time this season when named in the defeat at Norwich at the weekend.

His club manager Arsene Wenger had warned against 'expecting too much too soon' recently with Roy Hodgson echoing this: 'he was a revelation when he broke into the team and is certainly one we're going to be watching very carefully

'The thing we've got to realise about Jack, as Arsene mentioned, is that he's been out of football for a long time.

'He's a wonderful talent and of course it would be terrific if he could reproduce that form when he becomes involved again but I'm also keen to play down the expectations.

'When you've been out for well over a year, to come back and play like he was before might take a little bit of time.'

Many have been calling for him to return to the international fold for the friendly with Sweden next month, but this seems as though it will come a little too soon with Hodgson appearing to also - and rightly so - rule this out.

To miss one international - a friendly at that - and give him the 20-year-old a good chance of the next decade or so as a regular in the squad must take priority!

of course we are getting carried away, but does that show who desperate we are to see an England team play football of a decent standard. Though Im a spurs fan, he is a player that rightly excites, as he has touch, vision, bite and engine. Gerrard aside, there isnt anyone similar. Question I have is where he will ultimately play for club and country. in the long term I believe he will be a deep lying playmaker, but does he have the experience to play that role just yet for Hodgson's team
