Shelvey called-up
Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey has been called into the senior squad for the first time.
The midfielder, who was brought to Liverpool as a teenager from Charlton - where he featured regularly as a 15 and 16-year-old I believe - and after working his way into the fold at Anfield, spending some time on loan with Blackpool, he has been a regular this season.
Shelvey's form this season, and performances for England at U21 level in recent times, has caught the eye. So much so that Roy Hodgson has decided to bring him into the senior squad.
The chances of him getting a look-in against San Marino are limited, that said - with all due respect - it is 'only' San Marino so he might get on at some point, which 'if' he is part of the longer-term vision with The Three Lions, as you would think he is, why not?
All-in-all though it is probably just a case of Hodgson taking a closer look at the 20-year-old in training for a few days, as he cannot feature in the U21 game this week as he is suspended anyway...

though I don't think he is quite ready for the seniors yet. I have been impressed with Shelvey, and think this will be good experience for him, if nothing else at this stage. I supopse the only debate is whether he would have benefited more from playing for the U-21s
