'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Well said Neville!

In all honesty I am not the biggest fan of Gary Neville, I never have been and probably never will be, but to be fair he 'seems' to know his stuff, so has the makings of a decent coach.

Alas, this is not the point here!

That the point is that I think Neville was, when talking on Monday Night Football, spot on with his assessment of Rio Ferdinand and his 'England exile' amidst some calls for him to be recalled: 'I don't understand the big issue about this.

'This is not a Roy Hodgson thing, it's not like Rio has been playing consistently for England over the past two years. He only played in three of Fabio Capello's last 18 games.'

The door is 'not closed' on Ferdinand but with age not on his side, and the fact that it would be 'divisive' to include him in squad if he is not playing it seems as though a way back is unlikely.

Neville added: 'importantly, Roy has said he is not going to take experienced internationals, with 70 or 80 caps, to the World Cup, and then have them sit in the stands.

'I've been in squads where that has happened and it's been divisive. It would be divisive in this squad but it's not going to happen and that's the correct decision.

'The door is not closed on Rio and, if he is selected, then he will be the first name on the teamsheet.

'Hodgson is looking to the World Cup in 2014. Rio is a class player but, by the World Cup, he will be 35.'

Like I say I think Neville is spot on, what is the big issue here?!

Ferdinand, even before the Euros when it all 'kicked-off' following his oversight from the squad, had not been an England regular for a couple of years prior - suddenly a few stuck their two-penneth in and he should have!

With John Terry recently retiring again some start banging on about bringing Ferdinand back!

Why?

England have moved on from Ferdinand, and now Terry, it is time that some of the so called 'expert pundits' and 'star journalists' realised this too...

have to say Neville nailed it. what I admire about him as a pundit is that he is 100% honest regardless of who the player is and who they play for
