Card happy

Quite a few have come out and spoken negatively about Cuneyt Cakir, the referee of England's game against Ukraine on Tuesday night, with Steven Gerrard also doing this following his sending off by him...

Much like Roy Hodgson had suggested previously the England captain did not think there was 'a bad tackle' throughout the game, yet it ended with England collecting five yellow cards and a red with Ukraine getting three yellows!

Gerrard said: 'I don't think there was a bad tackle in the game, was there? And I think the referee's given seven yellow cards.'

Red cards are something that Gerrard has had at club level for Liverpool, some definitely deserved, but this was his first in 98 internationals for England, so that 'disappointed' him.

As a result he will now miss the next qualifier against San Marino next month, but will return to face Poland.

Missing that game is not something that the Liverpool man feels will be a problem, and he was happy enough with his own performance on the night, but he was gutted to be sent off: 'it's disappointing for me because it's a red card - my first one in 98 caps.

'But we play San Marino next. I'm sure the boys can do the job without me and then I'll be available for Poland.

'I'm gutted over the red but happy with my performance.'

Yep, once again - biased perhaps - I do think Gerrard was a little hard done by here.

The second booking, in particular, was harsh as I do think that he got a bit of the ball but I guess in the modern era you cannot make such a challenge anymore can you!

I certainly thought we didnt get the rub of the green with regard to any of the decisions, but considering Gerrard was already on a yellow, can he really have any complaints wiht the second yellow, which was one of the few correct decisions in my opinion

Cleverly no where near a top premier league player an a million miles off being a full internatinal most over rated player since Geoff Thomas

have to disagree andy, i have been impressed with Cleverley, though I dont think his best position is off of a striker, but a deeper role

Poor Ref but England were as bad

for me we just edged the 90 mins, but we shouldnt really have to rely on the ref to get us the points
