'If It's Football, It's Vital'

All-round contribution more important

A player is not always everyone's 'cup of tea' and I would say that James Milner possibly falls into this category as far as England go...

The Man City man has played a huge role under Roy Hodgson thus far though, featuring in every game under the England manager and he celebrated his first goal at senior international level in the 5-0 win at Moldova on Friday.

If that proves to be his only for The Three lions he says he would be 'delighted'...

Not just as it means he has scored but as he will sacrifice further goals to be more involved all-round: 'if I was to never score another goal for England but we won the World Cup - and I was running around doing the not-glamorous things - I'd be delighted with that.

'The main thing is contributing - whether it is with assists or doing the job you have to do for the team. That is what I'll do and hopefully that will mean scoring more goals.'

Milner is a hard-working player that I personally feel most sides need, he most definitely fits into Hodgson's mould as to what he is looking for from a player.

Is he more useful centrally or out wide though?

Again from a personal viewpoint I would say centrally from what I have seen at club level but this is not an area that will see him getting into the side in such a role so I can see the benefits of playing his out wide as that hard working nature to get up and down the pitch benefits The Three Lions at both ends.

If he can start chipping in with a few more goals too, even though he is not too bothered, his contribution will be recognised more with credit quite possibly being given that he most likely already deserves...

though I would prefer to see Oxlade Chamberlain start, I like the fact that Walcott brings pace from the bench, and that can be vital late on as we saw with his sub performance in the euros

for some reason I posted that in the wrong article...

as for milner, he is an excellent team player, who might no be everyones ideal player in their dream XI but those who really know the game and also those who play alongside him, know his value
