Terry out

During the early part of the weekend it was hoped that John Terry would be passed fit to face the Ukraine in our second world cup qualifier tomorrow, although he has now been ruled out.

The Chelsea man, and twice former England captain, has lost his battle to be fit after picking up an ankle injury in the win over Moldova on Friday, as such he is now out of the Wembley fixture.

Whilst Terry is still a very good defender I have often been of the opinion that it is time to move on from him now and as such I think we can cope without him for this game as we have enough quality cover, in this squad alone, to fill the void left by his injury enforced withdrawal...

without getting into the whole Terry debate which has been done to death, my feeling based purely on football, is that he may still be an excellent stopper and also leader, whether with or without the armband, but his lack of pace forces england to play too deep and that will always catch us out against the best sides, as we saw against France and Italy in the euros
