U21's close in on play-off spot

Another victory, a sixth from seven qualifiers, for England's U21 side leaves them on the verge of a play-off spot for a place in Euro 2013.

England were not as comfortable against Azerbaijan on the artificial pitch as they were in this country when they won 6-0 but they still did more than enough to secure another win and move them, at that point, five points clear at the top of group 8...

Just before the half hour mark Steven Caulker (28) scored having been set-up by the impressive Jonjo Shelvey, with this goal enough to take England into a half time lead.

A 2-0 victory was wrapped up late on when Liverpool man Shelvey (83) scored his first goal for the U21 side.

Norway did beat Belgium later in the evening on Thursday, 3-1, to keep alive their chances of overhauling England but The Young Lions remain 2pts clear and know that a draw in Chesterfield on Monday against the Norwegians will be enough to secure a play-off spot.
