Germany await...

Yet again, 'if' England can over come Italy on Sunday night, the old foe Germany await England!

At half time in Germany's quarter final with Greece somehow the Germans were only 1-0 up. Amazingly by the 55th minute, or so, the Greeks were level! Quite how this happened, with Germany having so much possession and so many chances, was amazing and for a very brief moment many were left with the 'surely not' thoughts...

And surely not was the case, order was soon restored with the Germans running out convincing 4-2 winners in the end to book their place in Thursdays semi final.

I belief that makes it four semi finals running for the Germans at major tournaments? And the last time they actually won anything was after a semi final meeting with England at Euro 96...

Without a shadow of a doubt England will have to perform better than they did against Ukraine the other night merely to overcome the Italians but if we can show the unity, and add a little more attacking intent, I reckon we can beat the Italians though.

To do this we must, like I say, show more attacking intent and most definitely utilise possession better. We do not need the lions share of possession but what we do with this will make all the difference, retaining the ball better and using this in a more offensive way is a must.

Ok the Italians are not quite the defensive rock of years gone by but they are past masters at holding onto a lead, so if they gain this we could have a battle to get back into the game on Sunday that much we can be sure of...

So, assuming we can overcome them, it would be the Germans again, so often our conquerors since the best day in English football history at the 1966 world cup!

As it stands Germany as more definitely looking the most likely nation to triumph at Euro 2012 but we do 'owe them one' and 'on our day' we can match anyone, but that day would have to see us at our most disciplined best and of course have some luck.

One game at a time I know but should we manage to book our semi final place against the Germans we could then start to seriously start thinking maybe just maybe our time has come...
