Should Rooney make instant return?

The votes had been cast; these numbers toted up with it decided among the Vital England fraternity that although he is now eligible to return Wayne Rooney SHOULD NOT walk straight back into the starting XI for England.

Ahead of the tournament, and for sometime, my thoughts were 'what if those ahead of him had done ok in the games without him, how is it fair that they miss out with him coming in?'

Well the answer is that it is not but you do what is best for the team and in all honesty his return would be best...

I think both Andy Carroll or Danny Welbeck could rightly feel hard done by if they are the one to make way, and the chances are it will be one of them. Ashley Young can count himself a lucky man as I do not think he has performed at the championships so far!

Carroll is the one that will dip out I feel due to the Man United link that Rooney and Welbeck have.

What is certain, given Roy Hodgson's thoughts, is Rooney will return: 'against Ukraine, a player like Rooney can make a major difference and I am delighted to welcome him back.

'If I did leave him out, all hell might break loose in the dressing room.

'Rooney is a striker that sometimes drops deep like Ashley Young did in the first game and Zlatan Ibrahimovic did today (Friday). I'll probably push Ashley to the wing when Wayne comes back.'
