Parking the bus

A saying, 'parking the bus', made famous a few years back by Jose Mourinho was ironically deployed by his countrymen Portugal at the weekend against Germany...

This kind of worked but ultimately did not pay off!

Comparisons were made between Portugal and England, with it 'thought' that that, the parking of the bus, approach will be adopted by The Three Lions against France?

In the opening group game no team wants to lose, and when you are facing one of the fancied sides from that group it is a little more understandable that you are somewhat conservative.

Given the technical ability that Portugal have, and how they finished the final 20-minutes or so of that Germany game you seriously had to question why they did indeed park that bus for as long as they did!

I guess in many ways those expecting a similar approach from England tonight would be right, although whilst we are not totally void of technically ability I think it would be a little more understandable that we would do this, and with all due respect to the manager we have this is more his style.

Sometimes it works sometimes it does not, but this parking of the bus is something that I feel is more suited to us than it was Portugal and if we get this right tonight we could see a similar 1-0 outcome, as was the case in the Portugal v Germany game, but this time the bus parkers could be the ones coming out on top with a narrow 1-0 win...

Should this prove successful tonight then hopefully with some pressure off if there is to be more bus parking as the tournament progresses it can be come more of a 'mini bus' as opposed to a double-decker!
